Old Bank Arcade Upgrade

The Brief

Modernising the lifts at Wellington's historic Old Bank Arcade required a careful balance between preserving the building's character and meeting modern safety and accessibility requirements.

Cirrus was engaged to design and supply new lift fixtures that would complement the original architecture while providing updated functionality.

The Delivery

Cirrus designed and supplied 16 custom landing fixtures and two car operating panels (COPs).

Polished brass was selected for the landing fixtures to complement the building's original fittings and develop a natural aged finish over time.

The car operating panels featured a linen finish and Dewhurst US91 Optic pushbuttons with Braille identification, providing accessible controls without detracting from the heritage surroundings.

Cirrus also supplied seismic detectors to support the project's earthquake safety requirements.

The Outcome

The completed fixtures combine modern lift technology with finishes and detailing that complement the Old Bank Arcade's historic interior.

The polished brass is gradually developing the softer appearance intended during the design process, helping the new panels blend naturally with the building's original features.

The result is a lift modernisation that improves functionality, safety and accessibility while respecting the character of this Wellington landmark.
